Alberta Lep Guild: interactive iNat feature

I was recently contacted to add in the same feature I wrote for the BCLeps site: an interactive page that lists provincial lep observations and data, pulled from iNaturalist – only this time for the Alberta Lep Guild, so showing Alberta lepidoptera information.

So, tada!

It’s actually a free, open source script that I wrote to be used on any website to show any taxon data for any region. The nuisance is that in order to actually show the iNat data, you need to first poll the iNat site to extract the information you want. So I have a temporary intermediary server running whose sole responsibility is to ping iNat and generate data files for use by the two sites, It’s not awfully complicated, but it means anyone that wants to use it needs to have to have a software developer stashed away in a closet somewhere to do the initial integration work. Pity! It would be nice it more broadly used.
